Ed Bicknell's career in rock management could have been so different. Asked in 1977 to listen to a new group in Camden, he thought the name sounded dire, and nearly didn't go. He changed his mind, and Dire Straits changed his life. He changed theirs: starting by increasing their night's payment from the £5 they'd earned in Camden. Thousands of gigs, and by Bicknell's own admission, millions of pounds later, he can tell dozens of anecdotes about the personalities of the rock business, from Marvin Gaye to Ozzy Osbourne, via Jess Conrad!
