Wednesday, 30. April 2003: Anthony MinghellaOn Wednesday, 30. April 2003 we were delighted to be addressed by Anthony Minghella, Oscar-winning film director, screenwriter and chairman of the British Film Institute, is one of Hull University's most illustrious graduates. He was able to free an evening during the editing of his latest project, Cold Mountain, to talk to Hull alumni and answer questions about films, film-making and Hull! Dr Minghella (the University of Hull is just one institution to have awarded him an Honorary Doctorate) described his time as a student and subsequently lecturer in the University's drama department as a key chapter in his life, without which he wouldn't have been able to embark on the career which has made him the acclaimed and multi-award-winning director he is today. He is also the co-owner with Sidney Pollack of Mirage Enterprises and a CBE. We enjoyed hearing about the making of his films such as "Truly, Madly, Deeply," "The Talented Mr Ripley," " The English Patient," as well as TV series such as "Inspector Morse" and "Grange Hill", and truly appreciated the fact that he took time out of his busy schedule to speak to us!
